Shirley Cordes-Rogozinsky
Shirley Cordes-Rogozinsky portrays nature in an abstracted form giving the viewers the opportunity to interpret according to their own experience. Shirley works in oil creating very large and powerful pieces.
NOTE: There will be an exhibition of Shirley's new works starting November 1, 2012 - FUSION!.
Artist's Statement:
Response to the environment plays an important role in my paintings. Complete immersion in the natural environment while attending the Emma Lake Artist’s Workshop last summer was the catalyst for this exhibition. I could paint 12 hours a day, even all night without interruption in an atmosphere energized by 18 artists who had a serious desire to continue to learn, and grow; and mentored by David Alexander (an accomplished and esteemed Canadian landscape painter). “FUSION,” is an exhibition informed by this experience.
This exhibition explores acrylic and mixed media paintings in addition to oil paintings. I dripped, poured, and painted these canvases. I used brushes, rags, painting knives, even trowels! I experimented with as many types of mark making tools that I could think of. I created as the dictionary states; “something new created by a mixture of qualities, ideas, or things, blending styles,” |
