Mel Heath

[Please note that Mel Heath has recently also begun painting in oils, and we now have a selection of those images below on this page.]

Watercolour has always been my chosen medium because of its many great qualities, the spontaneouss way the paint flows, the cleanness, quick drying capabilities, and the challenge, there is always minimal allowance for error.

The artists that have affected my development are: Robert Hurley and Ernest Lindner influenced me in my early years. Later on Andrew Wyeth taught me to look for simplicity in my subjects.

I aim for contrasts in my paintings, light against dark. I enjoy creating unusual compositions. Sometimes I primarily try to evoke an emotion, a mood, or an idea. The inspiration for a painting can come from anywhere, but often ideas come from nature.
