| The Raku & Clay Works of
|
Elke Blodgett
"Being a potter is a constant journey of discovery and chance happenings. My hands discover and make visible the inside of me. They take what I do not know and give it form" says Elke.
Elke's career in clay sculpture began in 1969 at a pottery course. Balancing raising three children and a great desire to create, Elke took classes whenever and wherever she could. The Banff Centre helped develop her skill but her uniqueness as a person shines through in the raku sculptures she creates. Her sculptures are primitive and much of the resulting sculpture has been left up to chance. The subtle colours of the glaze respond to changes in light and atmosphere, the shapes often precarious in their stance. She also finds herself returning to molds she once used but the results are always different; they change as she has changed over the years.
Elke's training includes kiln building, Japanese folk pottery, sculptural ceramics courses, study tour of German, French, Greek and Cretan Ceramists. |
