Joanna Drummond
(Joanna's paintings can be seen on her Paintings page.)
In the words of renowned clay and mixed media artist Joanna Drummond, "being granted a gift is nothing to be taken lightly...it must be shared", and this sharing has stood her well throughout the decades!
Originally from Ontario, via Alberta for 30 years, Joanna's passion and talent in sculpting clay (blending traditional hand building with new unexpected techniques) and firing raku catapulted her onto the national scene as an artist as well as an instructor. Her knowledge and understanding of design as well as unique stains and glazes has given her the confidence to gamble on her own intuition and relish the spiritual nature of clay's offerings.
Joanna's artistic passion has expanded into painting, her mixed media works exhibiting both skill at extreme detail as well as being extremely evocative, images that stay in the memory long after viewing.
Joanna's works have been commissioned for Alberta's Lieutenant Governor's Leadership awards, the International Children's Festival and the Government of Alberta. She has recieved The United Nations Woman of Distinction for Philanthropy award, and both the St. Albert Mayor's award and the Community Recognition Award (Arts and Culture).
Joanna now resides in North Assnich, B.C., pushing her discipline in new directions. In her own words, her philosopy resounds in this statement: "Unless I attempt something beyond what I have already mastered, I will cease to grow."
