M. Craig Campbell

The ability to conceive and create fills me with incredible joy. I strive for a minimalist design, simplicity of function, longevity of use and a lifetime or more of enjoyment from each piece. My work tends to fall within two categories: furniture and sculpture. I like furniture because it marries form and function and I am intent on pursuing larger scale, heavily forged sculpture to further explore pure form.

I have had several different occupations over the years but none so rewarding as working artistically with metal. Blacksmithing, copper smithing, lock smithing, fabricating, mokume gane, repoussé and other techniques all fall within the modern artist-blacksmith's repertoire. I have experimented with several of them and hope to experience all of them but I understand that I will become fully competent at only a one or two. I am not daunted by this. Humbled, yes! Inspired, yes again! One of the great marvels of artistic blacksmithing is the unlimited possibilities.
