Opening with the Art Walk on July 8, 6-9pm, and running through July 31, we will be featuring two artists: Francis Alty-Arscott and Ken Hawtin.

The rolling countryside and the sparse woodlands of Alberta inspires Francis Alty-Arscott paintings in watercolour, acrylic, and dye on rice paper. She does not usually paint specific scenes so much as take the elements she sees and attempts to portray impressions on the paper. The watercolour medium, enhanced by drawing technique, lends itself superbly to such interpretation. Frances attempts to recreate Alberta's subtle colours with open washes, and then to create tension within the work, she uses juxtaposition of colour in a manner similar to colour field. The use of colour has been central to the success of her work.

In addition Ken Hawtin will be adding new works. His finely turned wood pieces exhibit precision craftsmanship as well as artistic vision. Ken will be in the gallery for the Artwalk opening to discuss his technique with anyone who shares his love of all things wood. Click here to view several examples of Ken's works.

Beginning with the Art Walk on Thursday, Aug. 5, 6-9pm, and running through Aug. 30, we will be featuring works by artists Angela Morgan and Karen Bishop.

Angela Morgan’s work celebrates humanity through the use of colour, pattern, and line. Her human figures express the poses of life; the jubilation of dance, the contemplation of parenthood, and the melancholy of summer’s end. Colours fuse and meld to achieve gesture, transforming abstract images into living moments.

Our other featured artist will be Karen Bishop. "My work is not intended to be seen as a photographic reproduction of the landscape. Instead I paint by feel. The paintings that evoke the most emotion are those completed on location where I am able to allow the landscape to dictate how I proceed. I try not to worry about the ending, rather I let the painting unfold and track its own course across my paper."
